TO THE EDITOR:
Our city is blessed to have many trees, but our city councils have no ordinances protecting the cutting of trees for business or residential construction. I live near a new office under construction that had no consideration of the trees being cut except two.
These two were chopped off twenty feet above ground ostensibly for chainsaw sculptures. In Austin, Texas, these would have been considered heritage oaks and protected. Furthermore, I fail to see the need to widen Summerhill Road north. The additional two lanes and right-of-way will destroy one of the few scenic drives we have in Texarkana.
