Letter to the Editor: Rule of law

TO THE EDITOR:

Society has rules that are called laws. If you break a rule the police contact you and allow you to give your version to a judge who will give you a "time out."

What prevents people from breaking the rules are consequences. Would you ever speed if you could never receive a speeding ticket? Sure you would. But the consequences of a speeding ticket keeps you near the speed limit.

What makes our society work is the police. You break a rule and they will arrest you and there will be consequences. Consequences maintain behaviors.

A few mayors, government administrators and an occasional governor missed school on the day the rules of our country, otherwise called the constitution, the Bill of Rights and the laws of the United States were explained.

So a few (and I use this term optimistically) "well intentioned", ignorant managers in our government are allowing some of our citizens to break our rules. Additionally, they are defunding and not supporting the police who enforce the rules.

Rules allow us to feel safe physically, feel safe our possessions will not be stolen or damaged and that our family and neighbors are safe. One of the rules that allow us that safe feeling is that if police do not arrive on time, we are allowed to own guns and defend ourselves, our family and our neighbors.

When the government says it is coming after our guns, they really are saying they are coming after my country. I was drafted and defended my country 49 years ago. I am defending it again. Citizens need guns.

Just 2% of our citizens want to overturn my country and use new rules. That is not OK.

Citizens are afraid to speak up, because it is not "politically correct." Political correctness can cost us our country.

I will not allow my country to be stolen. I demand that myself, my family and my neighbors continue to feel safe for their lives and their possessions. I demand that the police be kept and supported. I demand educated mayors and governors be kept and supported.

Those who are governed by bad officials should band together and set a Guinness Book of Records for how quickly they can recall that person. Now is the time for all my fellow citizens to speak up and remind others it is sedition and treason to overthrow our country.
