Zoning

I live in the nicest neighborhood in New Boston, but not for long. A trucking company is being built across the highway from my home. A city zoning hearing to move that land from agricultural to commercial zoning is scheduled for next week on June 30, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. The trucking company is already moving dirt at the site.

I am opposed to the zoning change and to the trucking company. Highway 8 South between New Boston and Old Boston is historically a residential highway. It is bordered by our city's largest and finest housing additions. A children's preschool on Highway 8 is next to my home and the Baptist, Methodist, and LDS churches, and a funeral home are only a few thousand yards away.

We don't need a trucking company bringing big truck traffic, noise, carbon emissions, and petrochemical pollution to our neighborhoods. It will endanger the safety and diminish the quality of life of hundreds of local homeowners. It may eventually necessitate the widening of Highway 8 and the destruction of my yard.

The notice I received announcing the rezoning hearing was sent to only residents within 200 feet of the site. This is practically no one. The hearing location and an information telephone number were not included on the notice. Perhaps my neighbors and I are not supposed to actually attend the hearing.

Backhoes are seriously moving dirt across the highway from me. They have spot lights that allow them to work after dark and they sometimes work past midnight. Someone must be pretty sure they will get the zoning change.
