Victoria's domination of Twins continues

Victoria owns the Texarkana Twins this summer.

The Generals remain first in the second half of the Texas Collegiate League, and 12-1 against Texarkana after beating the Twins Wednesday at George Dobson Field, 12-2.

Texarkana's prospects to reach the postseason also remain good despite the lopsided setback.

The Twins' hopes get tougher after tonight's game with Victoria. It will be the final game this season for sluggers Alex Rodriguez and Chandler Robertson. Infielder Troy Black played his final game last weekend. All three returned home to get ready for school in the fall.

Southpaw Gabriel Sequeira silenced Texarkana batters to two hits and struck out nine in holding the Twins scoreless for 6 2/3 innings.

Sequeira ran into trouble in the seventh after issuing a two-out walk to Kyle Bottger and hit Cale Ridling. Catcher Chad McKinney smash a 3-1 offering to the fence in center for a double to score both Bottger and Ridling.

Victoria got on the scoreboard against Twins lefty in the third after a leadoff bunt hit by Darion Simms. He moved up two outs later when Jack Kenley walked, scoring on Enrique Sanchez's single to center.

The Generals made it 3-0 in the fifth on a run-scoring single by Kenley, and sacrifice fly from Sanchez.

That margin grew to 8-0 in the sixth on hits by Jordan Hackett, Christian Caudle and Chase Evans.

Texarkana's bullpen struggled against the talented General's club. Trinity Christian graduate Austin Cree made his summer debut, and started impressively in retiring three straight batters in the seventh.

It was different in the eighth as Cree couldn't finish the inning, yielding two walks and three hits for four runs. Cree was replaced by Redwater product Nick Anderson, who struck out two straight batters to end the damage.

Texarkana's frustration was obvious in the eighth when a baserunner didn't take off on Rodriguez's two-out hit off the green wall in center, and the Twins' slugger only got a single.
