Texarkana was held scoreless for seven innings, and Amarillo rolled to a 9-2 win in a Texas Collegiate League Game at George Dobson Field on Wednesday.
Shandon Herrera was the winning pitcher, threw four innings of 1-hit ball, struck out five, walked a batter and did not allow a run.
A bright spot of the Twins came in the eighth inning. After back to back singles by Jake Slunder and Jay French, Cameron Dollar slapped a 2-run triple to deep right field to put Texarkana on the board.
Kurtis Byrne doubled to center to give the Sod Dogs a 1-0 lead in the second frame.
Amarillo padded its lead, 2-0, on an RBI double from Mack Chambers. Gerald Nervis, who had doubled, scored.
Eduardo Acosta blasted a 2-run homer to left center to put the Sod Dogs up, 4-0, in the fifth inning.
Rhett Maynard scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0, and Nervis smacked an RBI double in the sixth for Amarillo. Acosta laced an RBI single into left center to score Nervis. The Sod Dogs took a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.
Amarillo continued the barrage when Maynard slugged a 2-run round tripper over the left field wall to make it 9-0.
The Sod Dogs (2-0) play at Texarkana (0-2) today at 7:05 p.m. in the last game of a 3-game series at George Dobson Field.
