NORMAN, Okla. - Spencer Rattler passed for a touchdown and ran for another, and No. 3 Oklahoma held on to beat Nebraska, 23-16, on Saturday.
Celebrating the 50-year anniversary of the "Game of the Century" - No. 1 Nebraska's 35-31 win over No. 2 Oklahoma in 1971 - the teams rewarded their nostalgic fans with a competitive contest.
In the first meeting between the former conference rivals since 2010, Nebraska got the ball trailing by a touchdown with 57 seconds remaining and no timeouts. The Cornhuskers could not manage a first down.
Eric Gray ran for 84 yards on 15 carries and Kennedy Brooks added 75 yards on 14 attempts for the Sooners (3-0).
Adrian Martinez passed for 289 yards and a touchdown for Nebraska (2-2), which was seeking its first win over a ranked team since 2015.
Oklahoma opened with an old-school 14-play, 75-yard drive. Rattler sneaked in from the 1 to give the Sooners a 7-0 lead.
Nebraska responded with a 14-play drive, but the Huskers were derailed by four penalties. Connor Culp's career-long 51-yard field goal put the Cornhuskers on the board.
In the third quarter, Oklahoma's Mario Williams caught a pitch and threw backwards to Rattler, who found Marvin Mims open for a 23-yard gain. The Sooners cashed in and took a 14-3 lead when Rattler found Jeremiah Hall in the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown pass.
Nebraska appeared to gain momentum when Martinez scored from 4 yards out.
West Virginia 27, Virginia Tech 21
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - Jarret Doege threw two touchdown passes, Leddie Brown rushed for 106 yards and a score and West Virginia survived Virginia Tech's furious rally from a 20-point deficit.
The Mountaineers (2-1) built a 27-7-point lead midway through the third quarter but saw that mostly evaporate due to Virginia Tech's Braxton Burmeister.
Burmeister threw for two scores, including a 29-yard toss to Jalen Holston with 3:10 left. Virginia Tech got the ball back with 2:11 remaining on Jermaine Waller's interception of Doege at the West Virginia 17, but Burmeister threw incomplete on fourth-and-goal from the 3 and West Virginia ran out the clock.
It was one of three Virginia Tech (2-1) drives that stalled inside the West Virginia 10, with the Hokies coming away with no points.
Baylor 45, Kansas 7
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Gerry Bohanon threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns while running for another score, and Baylor had its way against Kansas on the ground, piling up 307 yards rushing in a convincing victory.
Abram Smith ran for 122 yards and a touchdown, and Trestan Ebner added 72 yards on just 12 carries, as the Bears (3-0, 1-0 Big 12) beat the Jayhawks (1-2, 0-1) for the 12th consecutive time. Baylor hasn't lost to Kansas since the 2007 season.
Baylor finished with 576 yards total offense. Kansas managed just 166.
Jayhawks quarterback Jason Bean was held to just 57 yards passing and a touchdown, though he did have 62 yards on the ground, before giving way to backup Jalon Daniels in the fourth quarter.
By that point, Baylor had turned a 14-7 halftime advantage into another rout.
Kansas State 38,
Nevada 17
MANHATTAN, Ks. - Will Howard pushed into the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run to cap a 21-point fourth quarter, which sealed a victory for Kansas State over Nevada.
Deuce Vaughn led the rushing attack for the Wildcats with 127 yards and a touchdown en route to the win. Vaughn has eclipsed 1,000 career yards rushing in only 13 games as a Wildcat. The sophomore running back reached the 1,000 milestone a game faster than Kansas State legend Darren Sproles.
Howard rushed for 56 yards and two touchdowns. The sophomore quarterback went 7 of 10 in the air for 123 yards and threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Imatorbhebhe on the second play of the game.
Carson Strong was 27-of-40 passing for 262 yards with a touchdown and interception for Nevada.
