Pewitt upends Redwater, 49-26

REDWATER, Texas-Paul Pewitt throttled Redwater 49-26, Friday night at Dragon Stadium.

Consistent defensive errors, including four lost fumbles, by the Dragons played, and an unrelenting run game by the Brahmas played a key role in the contest's outcome.

La-Jathan Allen led all rushers with 151 yards rushing on 13 carries and two touchdowns for Paul Pewitt. The Brahama's quarterback Cross Holder frequently served as the final punch of Allen's long runs, dashing in for three scores of his own.

When the Brahmas left the field at halftime they had a a three-touchdown lead.

Allen led Paul Pewitt's first half advance with nine carries for 140 yards and and two TDs.

Early in the third quarter, Redwater gained momentum, recovering an onside kick after Lawson McBain had darted 38 yards into the end zone, and an opportunity to cut the lead down to 15 but lost the ball on a fumble on the opening play of the drive.

Preston Davis broke the ice for Redwater with the first touchdown of the contest in the opening quarter-a three-yard bolt up the middle. After the failed run the Dragons were on top 6-0.

Paul Pewitt found a response a minute later as Cross Holder ran a keeper from the two yard line to give the game its first knot.

In the second quarter the Brahmas began to separate themselves from the Dragons opening the quarter with back to back touchdowns.

Holder dashed the first in from eight yards out, and it was Garrett Johnson that pushed the two point run in to give Paul Pewitt its first lead. A costly Redwater fumble on the kick off return gave the ball right back to the Brahmas who went 37 yards in two plays to score on a two yard plunge by Allen. Holder kicked the extra point to make it 21-6 to Paul Pewitt.

The Dragons were able to bite back on their following drive as Davis scurried 61 yards to find the end zone on the second play of the drive. Johnson punched the extra point run into the end zone to cut the deficit down to seven.

Paul Pewitt, unphased, went 51 yards in three plays on its next drive, resulting in a 23-yard run by Keiuntray Hawkins and an extra point by Holder.

In Redwater's final drive of the first half it was able to convert two first downs and move the ball 27 yards before another fumble forced a turn over on downs giving the ball back to the Brahmas with 2:45 remaining in the half. Ten plays later, with four seconds on the clock, Allen dashed in from the three-yard line to extend the Brahma's lead to 21 points after Holder kicked the point after.

Holder was first to score in the second half, running in from the three-yard line.

After McBain's 38-yard trot and Redwater's fumble after their successful onside kick, Paul Pewitt tacked on its last touchdown of the game, a 22-yard run by Kadrien Johnson.

Davis led the Dragons with 122 yards rushing on six carries. Jaxson Feemster contributed 76 rushing on 16 carries and McBain finished with 68 yards on six carries.

With this loss Redwater slips to 0-3 on the season and Paul Pewitt improves to 3-0.
