LONGVIEW, Texas — Pleasant Grove went 2-1 on the final day of the Longview volleyball tournament and earned second place on Saturday.

Macy Young served in 13 points as the Lady Hawks downed Longview's junior varsity, 25-13, 25-9.

Ella Nichols slapped in nine points, and PG defeated Elysian Fields, 25-14, 25-21.

Katie Ferguson put down seven kills, but the Hawks fell to Lindale, 20-25, 25-19, 25-13. Teammate Young had seven service points and 10 assists.

Young, Ferguson and Nichols each earned a spot on the all-tournament team.


Lady Tigers split at tournament

GARLAND, Texas — Logan Pilgreen had 10 kills, 10 assists and 19 service points to lead Texas High to a 25-14, 21-25, 25-22, victory over Mesquite at the Garland volleyball tournament.

Valeria Perez made 14 digs and smacked in 10 service points for the Lady Tigers.

Ellison Davis paced Texas High with nine service points, but Texas High fell to Kilgore, 25-20, 25-19.


Lady Lions finish in third

PARIS, Texas — New Boston went 2-1 on the final day of the Paris Chisum volleyball tournament and finished third in the gold bracket on Saturday.

Carleigh Reeves put down six kills, Grace Duffer slapped in 14 service points, and Carlee Ratcliff made 20 digs as the Lady Lions defeated DeKalb, 25-15, 24-26, 25-11.

Duffer had 22 assists and 23 service points as New Boston defeated host Paris Chisum, 23-25, 25-16, 25-16.

Lauren Hurst had 10 kills, and Reeves added seven kills for the Lions.

Ratcliff had 10 digs and eight service points, but New Boston fell to Prairiland, 25-17, 25-12.

Duffer had 24 assists and 11 service points to lead the Lions to a 25-16, 30-29, 15-6, marathon win over Bells on Thursday.

Hurst had 10 kills, Reeves had three solo blocks, Ratcliff made 18 digs, and teammate Tamiya Smith added six for NB.

Brittney Myers served in eight points, and the Lions downed Pittsburg, 25-7, 25-13.

Reeves put down eight kills, Ratcliff had 12 digs, and Duffer made 14 assists for New Boston.

Smith had four service points as the Lions defeated Boles-Home, 25-22, 29-27.

Hurst had nine kills, Reeves put down eight winners, Duffer had 16 assists, and Ratcliff added 15 digs.

New Boston plays at Chapel Hill today at 4:30 p.m. in Mount Pleasant, Texas.



Tigers off to strong start

TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas High's tennis team defeated Kaufman, 18-1, on Saturday.

The Tigers also defeated Mansfield Lakeridge, 18-1, on Saturday.

On Friday, Texas High downed Midlothian, 18-1.

With the wins on Saturday, the Tigers have defeated three teams by a combined score of 54-3.
