New Boston sweeps at tourney

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas - Kyle Atkinson's 19 points led New Boston over host Hughes Springs on the first day of the Hughes Springs varsity boys tournament, 50-46, on Thursday.

Tre Lewis and Ja'veon Brown each poured in nine points apiece for the Lions.

New Boston defeated Winnsboro in its second game of the day, 55-45.

Atkinson led the Lions with 24 points and teammate Jamin Powell added 17 points.

In other games, Atlanta defeated Winnsboro, 61-46, and beat Hughes Springs, 84-26. , Linden-Kildare beat Avinger, 51-46, and edged Ore City, 58-57.

Ore City took down Hawkins, 50-36 and Avinger topped Hawkins, 41-23.

New Boston will face Ore City at 10:15 a.m., and will face Linden-Kildare at 3:15 p.m., at Mustang Gym.

 

Hooks tops Prescott

REDWATER, Texas - Hooks defeated Prescott in its game in the Redwater tournament at Dragon Gym, 45-43.

Dolph Caldwell led the Hornets with eight points and Cory Hill paced the Curley Wolves with a game-high 23 points.

The Hornets will face Daingerfield at 12:30 p.m., then will face Jefferson at 3:30 p.m.

 

GIRLS

THS edges Canton

WINNSBORO, Texas - Kerrighan Dunn's 16 points led Texas High over Canton in its first game of the Winnsboro varsity girls tournament Thursday, 57-51.

Amari Morrison added 11 points for the Lady Tigers.

THS will face either Longview or Mount Vernon at 2:40 p.m.

 

James Bowie falls to Bloomburg

SIMMS, Texas - Bloomburg defeated host James Bowie in the Lady Pirates varsity tournament Thursday, 41-29.

Haylee Breedlove led the Lady Wildcats with 11 points and teammate Katie Mote added 10 points with six steals.

Bloomburg will face Hooks JV at noon.

 

Hughes Springs Tournament

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas -Elysian Fields defeated Harleton on the opening day of the Hughes Springs varsity girls basketball tournament, 44-36.

Host Hughes Springs defeated Pittsburg, 39-17, and Harmony routed Linden-Kildare, 51-11.

Harmony beat Hughes Springs, 31-18, while White Oak defeated Linden-Kildare, 46-16.

Elysian Fields edged White Oak, 34-31, and Harleton throttled Pittsburg in the nightcap, 47-14.

 

Lady Longhorns go 2-0 in tourney

MCLEOD, Texas - Gracie Lance poured in 17 points as McLeod defeated Queen City, 49-36, in the McLeod varsity girls basketball tournament.

Sibbie Comer added 13 points for the Lady Longhorns, who won two games. Hannah Fitts had eight points to lead the Lady Bulldogs.

Kaitlyn Cross had a game-high 13 points to lead McLeod over New Diana, 32-29. Cary May added nine points for the Longhorns.

Fitts ripped the cords for 18 points as Queen City defeated Avinger, 40-25. Paige Whelchel had a team-high 10 points for the Lady Indians.

Alley Jefferson and Lindra Burchette each scored 11 points to lead Hooks to a 39-21 victory over Avinger.

DeKalb romped past New Diana, 32-17.

 

Texas High JV win 2 at tourney

TATUM, Texas - Jayden Godwin put up 17 points to lead Texas High's junior varsity to a 47-34 victory over Whitehouse at the Tatum basketball tournament.

Jakobe Johnson added 11 points for the Tigers.

Johnson spun in 17 points as Texas High's jayvee sneaked by John Tyler, 43-40. Godwin had 12 points, and teammate Braxton White scored 11 for the Tigers.

Damon Augustus poured in a game-high 23 points to lead Texas High's ninth grade to a 49-41 win over John Tyler.

Xavier Daingerfield ripped the cords for 15 points for the Tigers' frosh.

 

Pleasant Grove JH splits

TEXARKANA, Texas - Madison Carpenter and Julia Hackleman scored seven points each as Pleasant Grove edged Paris in the eighth grade A game, 33-31.

Lindsay Smith had four points for the Lady Hawks in the eighth grade B contest, but the Lady Cats won, 18-10.

Kenasia Henry and Abigail Boehmke fired in 10 points apiece as Pleasant Grove won the seventh grade A contest, 38-25.

Morgan Forand had six points for the Hawks' seventh B team, but Paris won, 9-7.

 

Both TMS A teams win

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas - Deja Hayes, Lyric Curtis and Kenaurih James each scored four points for Texas Middle School, but Sulphur Springs won the 8th grade A contest, 23-12.

Ke'Aria Antwine poured in 12 points as the Lady Tigers won the 7th grade A game, 23-6.
