Lady Tigers rebound to top L-E

TEXARKANA, Texas - Even a mediocre performance from the foul line by either team would have likely produced a blowout result in Friday's annual Texas High-Liberty-Eylau girls basketball tussle at Tiger Center.

Instead, Jalyn Golette's short jump shot from inside 10 feet with seven seconds left lifted the Lady Tigers to a 45-43 come-from-behind victory.

The two teams combined to miss 52 of 74 free throws, the biggest two by L-E with 3.4 seconds remaining. Amari Morrison made one of two charity attempts two seconds later to make the final margin two points.

Texas High (2-1) rallied from a 20-18 halftime deficit to lead 34-31 heading into the final period. But the Lady Leopards scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter to lead by as many as seven before going cold over the final three minutes.

With the clock winding down the Tigers worked the ball into Golette, who made the game-winner. Texas High was whistled for a foul in its full-court press, but both L-E free throws fell shy with Morrison grabbing the rebound on the second. She was fouled and made her first free-throw effort.

The Lady Tigers made only 8 of 34 attempts from the foul line, while Liberty-Eylau was 14 of 40.

Kerrighan Dunn led the Tigers with 17 points. Daycorla Meadows, who fouled out on a charge with six minutes to go, had nine for the Leopards. Myah Hurd, who also fouled out, had eight.

Texas High's junior varsity pulled away in the final quarter to beat L-E, 48-28. Braveon Hunt led the way with 16 points, Delano Augustus had 14 and Emma Prince 11 for the Tigers. Tatiana Crabtree had eight for L-E.
