GLADEWATER, Texas — Atlanta got defensive as the freshmen Rabbits opened their season Thursday with a 28-0 road win over Gladewater at Jack V. Murphy Bear Stadium.

Quarterback Cameron Dickerson raced 10 yards for a touchdown after Xavier Nash handled a Gladewater onside kick attempt and returned the opening kickoff to the Bear 10-yard line.

Bryce Allen broke a screen pass for a long gain to the Gladewater 7. A couple of plays later, Dickerson darted in from the 4 and Ike Chandler bulled in from the 1 in the third quarter for the Rabbs.

Russell Limbrick rumbled 18 yards to paydirt in the fourth quarter for the final tally.

The Atlanta defense made a goal line stand to end the game and preserve the shutout.



Lady Mustangs win pair

RED LICK, Texas — Red Lick won a pair of junior high volleyball matches over visiting North Heights, including a 17-25, 25-19, 15-8 win in the eighth-grade A contest.

Mollie Fisher served eight points for the Lady Mustangs, and Rylee Beavers had seven. Jenna Dupree led the Lady Backs with 10 points.

Red Lick won the seventh-grade A match, 25-22, 21-25, 15-3, with Addisyn Gildon serving 17 points and Ali Cheatham adding 15. Mayhil Drumm led North Heights with 13 points, and Kendra Jones added 12.
