Lady Hawks sweep past New Boston

TEXARKANA, Texas - It was a brief meeting between two familiar teams.

Pleasant Grove swept New Boston, 25-4, 25-18, 25-18, in a girls varsity volleyball match on Friday at Hawk Gym.

The third set featured five ties at 7, 9, 10, 12 and 15-all. Katie Ferguson, who finished with a match-high seven kills, took to the server's box and slapped in five consecutive serves to give Pleasant Grove a 21-15 lead in the third.

Unforced errors told much of the story as the Lady Lions committed 18 in the final set, while the Hawks had 14.

Harleigh O'Neal, who finished with a match-high 20 service points, took the serve with Pleasant Grove up 7-1 in the first set. O'Neal fired in 12 straight serves to give the Hawks a 19-1 lead. The game was out of reach and Pleasant Grove took the set win on Hallie Lipham's tip that connected on the far left baseline.

New Boston turned everything around in the second set, which was more competitive than the first. Down 10-4, Jaleigh Rowden put down a kill to give the Lions back the serve at 10-5. After a Pleasant Grove hitting error, Rowden hit a tip that went for a winner to make it 10-7.

Lexi Snyder blazed in an ace for the Hawks to give PG a 12-7 lead. New Boston had two hitting errors as the Hawks padded their lead, 14-7.

Pleasant Grove's Emma Boehmke took the serve with the Hawks up 18-10. Boehmke caused a serve-receive error then fired in an ace to make it 20-10. The lead was too great for the Lions to overcome.

Adi Koller finished with nine service points for Pleasant Grove, Snyder and Ella Nichols each had seven digs and Macy Young had 12 assists.

Faye Addison served in 13 points to propel the Hawks' junior varsity to a 25-12, 25-14 victory. Teammate Rylie Williams added seven points on serve.

Hali Hargrove and Fallon Anthony each had nine service points as Pleasant Grove's freshmen swept New Boston, 25-15, 26-24.
