L-E posts 33 points in fourth for win

PARIS, Texas - Liberty-Eylau saved the best of last.

The Lady Leopards, who trailed by 11 points (36-25) entering the fourth quarter, exploded for 33 points in the final 8 minutes to post a convincing 58-43 victory over North Lamar in District 15-4A basketball action Friday.

It the regular-season finale for both teams.

Liberty-Eylau (20-10, 6-2), the second-place finisher in district between two-time champion Pleasant Grove, will face Tyler Chapel Hill in the opening round of the state playoffs. The starting time and site had not been determined Friday night.

Elijah Howard scored 21 points and Kayla Crabtree added 17 to lead the Leopards offensively.

North Lamar finishes district with a 2-6 mark.

Liberty-Eylau won the junior varsity game, 28-19, with Bre Adams leading the winners with 17 points.

 

New Boston 84, Queen City 17

NEW BOSTON, Texas - New Boston, which has already clinched its second straight District 14-3A championship, remained unbeaten in league play with the lopsided win over the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Lions (20-7, 11-0) jumped out to a 19-7 first-quarter lead and it ballooned to 46-11 by intermission. The barrage continued in the third period, with the hosts going on a 32-6 scoring spree.

Chloe Davis led New Boston with 23 points, including four 3-pointers, Tamiya Smith added 17, Carlee Ratcliff 12 an Carleigh Reeves 11.

Amy Harrison topped Queen City (0-11 district) with six points.

The Lions, who went 12-0 in winning the district title last season, travel to Redwater to close out the regular season.

 

Paul Pewitt 70, Hooks 40

NAPLES-OMAHA, Texas - Mya Heath led a trio of double-digit scorers as Paul Pewitt rolled to the District 14-3A win over Hooks.

Heath scored a team-high 20 points for the Lady Brahmas, Sissy Jones added 12 and Calli Osmon 11. Alley Jefferson pitched in a game-high 27 points, including five 3-pointers, for the Lady Hornets.

Pewitt built a 29-22 halftime lead and outscored Hooks 41-18 in the final two quarters.

 

Soccer

Liberty-Eylau wins 3-1

Liberty-Eylau's Tarrick Alexander scored all three of the Leopards' goals in a 3-1 victory over Atlanta in varsity soccer action Friday at Harris Field.

Alexander's first goal came at the 32-minute mark, with Greg Agular assisting. His second at 27 minutes, was assisted by Ezekiel Brown. Completing the hat trick at 14 minutes, with Johnny Acosta getting the assist.

Stephen Nelson made 15 saves for the Leopards in goal.

In its next match, Liberty-Eylau travels to Pleasant Grove on Tuesday.

 

Tiger JV ties, 0-0

TEXARKANA, Texas - Texas High's boys junior varsity soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie against Centerville High Friday night at Tiger Stadium in Grim Park.
