Hot Springs Lakeside defeats Arkansas High

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Arkansas High ran into a stout Hot Springs Lakeside girls squad Tuesday, with the host Lady Rams rolling to a 61-35 win over the Lady Backs.

Lakeside improves to 21-4 overall and 9-3 in the 5A/6A-South Conference, good enough for second place behind front-runner Lake Hamilton (11-0 going into Tuesday's game against El Dorado).

Staijah Taylor was the lone double-figure scorer for Arkansas High with 12 points and Jamiya Montgomery followed with five points. Lakeside got 19 points from Chloe Porter and 15 from Maddie Trusty.

The Rams also won the junior varsity game, 25-13, with Yavunna Foster scoring five points for the Lady Backs.

Arkansas High (8-15, 3-9) plays at Lake Hamilton on Friday.

 

McLeod 79, Detroit 37

DETROIT, Texas - McLeod put the finishing touches on the school's first undefeated district championship by dumping Detroit, 79-37.

The Longhorns (31-2 overall) finished 12-0 in District 15-2A. McLeod is coached by Steven Lambeth.

The Longhorns didn't waste any time against Detroit, building a 20-0 first-quarter lead and opening it to 42-13 by intermission.

All 10 players on the McLeod varsity scored. Trevor Deel led the way with 21, followed by Kobe Bonner with 11 and Nathan Parker with 10. Deel also topped the Longhorns with 14 rebounds, and Bonner had 8. Keldyn Schubert had a team-high 10 assists to go along with seven points.

Kody Golightly led Detroit with 19 points, including four 3-pointers.

McLeod also won the JV game, 51-21, with Gabe Groves scoring 13 points, Trenton McKnight 11 and Braden Parker 8.
