REDWATER, Texas - Redwater senior Matt Williams signed with Hendrix College earlier in the spring, and the Dragon captain is ready to begin his next journey at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas.

Williams was also named Class 7-3A Utility Player of the Year, and he finished the 2019 football season with 66 tackles for the Dragons.

"I'm really excited to get there and get started," Williams said. "I've wanted to play college ball ever since I can remember. I started playing football in the second grade and I've wanted to get to this point since then."

Williams is also attempting to stay in playing shape, while finishing his senior year from home.

"Everything that's going on is crazy," Williams said. "We missed out on a lot of our senior year I feel like. It's upsetting a little bit but I'm more disappointed I couldn't do some of the things with my friends, that we missed out on."

Hendrix College is a Division III member of the Southern Athletic Association.

The Warriors ended the 2019 season 7-3 and on a 2-game winning streak.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to go to Hendrix, it's going to be a good opportunity," Williams said. "I'm ready for the good and the bad. The bad being that it's going to kick my tail. I love the facilities on campus. They're beautiful."

Hendrix College is historically a strong academic institution with a Christian foundation. The average ACT score for a student at Hendrix is between 24 and 31.

"Well, I thought if I could get a degree from there, it could help me in the long run," Williams said. "It was a double whammy because I'm getting a chance to play football, while also getting a really great education."

"Another reason why I chose Hendrix, was because of the Christian background it offers. I wanted to go to a Christian college, play football and get a great education. Hendrix checks all the boxes for me."

Hendrix opens the season, September 5 at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium, hosting Texas Lutheran University.
