Northeast Texas high school football preview | HUGHES SPRINGS (6-3) vs. WEST RUSK (7-3)

SITE, TIME: Gladewater's Jack V. Murphy Stadium, 7 p.m.

AT STAKE: Class 3A, Div. II area championship.

GAME FACTS: The Mustangs defeated Anderson-Shiro in the bi-district round, 34-26, while the Raiders rolled past Chisum, 55-33. Hughes Springs is averaging 32.2 points per game and gives up 22.1. West Rusk scores an average of 37.0 points per contest and give up 19.2.

COACH'S COMMENTS: Hughes Springs' Chris Edwards-"West Rusk is explosive on offense and are well coached. They throw the ball well and can score. They run a spread offense. We are hoping to create a turnover here or there and give them some different looks. We will need to get some stops to get the ball into the hands of our offense. They like to power run the football at their opponents.
"We want to try to slow down their offense. We want to limit their opportunities by managing the clock on our side. They are young, so we are going to play on some of that inexperience. They play well together. The team is happy-go-lucky. We are looking forward to another game."

NEXT ROUND: Winner will face either Daingerfield or Waskom in the regional quarterfinals.
