LIBERTY-EYLAU

LAST WEEK: Liberty-Eylau beat Atlanta at Harris Field, 24-7.

THIS WEEK: Liberty-Eylau (2-1) will host Life Waxahachie (1-2) for Senior Night at Harris Field.

OFFENSIVE STANDOUTS: RB Damian Henderson rushed 18 times for 125 yards, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. Henderson also caught five passes for 59 yards and a touchdown. RB Takylan Hampton ended the night with three carries for 33 yards and a score. QB JJ Hampton completed 17 of 30 passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns. WR Chris Lewis finished with six receptions for 53 yards and a score. WR TJ Gray caught one pass for 50 yards with a touchdown, and WR Semaj Rose ended the night with five catches for 54 yards.

DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS: DB Keylon Watson led the Leopards defensively with three interceptions and four tackles, while Darrion Crabtree added six tackles. DB Marshad Handy collected six stops and teammate DB Tracy Revels finished with five tackles. DL Malik Riley, LB Michael Riley, LB Takylan Hampton and LB Keyvuntae Featherson each ended the game with five tackles apiece.

COACH DEWASKI DAVIS' COMMENTS: "It was a big rivalry game, so you could throw the records out the door. Atlanta played better than they did the week before. Our kids still fought through. We thought it was going to be one way, it ended up being another way. The kids fought and found a way to make It happen.

"We were kinda sick about not getting the shutout. Our defensive staff preaches shutouts. We were extremely close but I'm proud of how our defense performed.

"Keylon Watson had three interceptions for us. That's maybe a school record. We had some guys really flying to the ball. Darrion Crabtree and De'Von King did their thing for us on the defensive line. Malik Riley went above and beyond his role for us. The Featherson Twins also played well for us. JJ Hampton threw for 216 yards and three touchdowns, as a sophomore.

"This was the hardest week for us to award player of the game. We have so many guys across the board that made plays for us. We preach that playmakers make plays, and they're making plays for us."

ARKANSAS HIGH

LAST WEEK: The Razorbacks beat Warren, 35-21, to open AHS' season.

THIS WEEK: Arkansas High travels to Magnolia to begin 5A-South play.

OFFENSIVE STANDOUTS: RB Torie Blair led the Hogs on the ground with 166 yards and three TDs on 20 carries. Backup QB Layton Lammers was 4-for-4 for 48 yards, no TDs and no picks to finish the game, and tight end Travion Nash recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD.

DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS: DB Naijah Taylor led the Razorback defense with eight tackles, including four solo stops, Rickie Williams contributed five tackles - all solos - and partially blocked a punt, and LB Eric Flowers, NG Joshua Gamble, and LB Christian Torres had six tackles apiece. Graydon Martin and Darius Hill added five tackles each.

COACH BARRY NORTON'S COMMENTS: "The things we've got to fix in the passing game are the timing issues. I thought both our quarterbacks played well. The timing of some of our routes is really where we need to work on, but this was our first time of playing at game speed, with competition across from us.

"This was the first time for a lot of our guys to play in a varsity football game. We had mistakes, but fixable mistakes. I'm pleased with the team and pleased with the kids. What we can do is take what we did well, build on that and correct the things we did poorly. If this had been our third or fourth game, we would probably have been a lot more polished. We've got to polish up in a hurry, going to Magnolia Friday to start conference."

PLEASANT GROVE

LAST WEEK: Pleasant Grove crushed Silsbee, 46-14, on Friday at Bulldog Stadium at Carthage High School.

DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS: Koller made an interception and returned it 33 yards. Quinn Bingham had an interception and returned it 48 yards.

COACH JOSH GIBSON'S COMMENTS: "I was really proud of the way the kids played. There were a lot of guys in the passing game who stepped up, and Jalen through the ball well. Our kids scored a ton of points and kept Silsbee down in the second half. It is special to see the kids make plays, get rewarded and come together.

"Jalen Pastchol is a senior, and he is not getting to play this year. He is the most hyped guy on our sideline. He doesn't feel sorry for himself and finds a way to shine his light. Kids like that are what it's all about.

"It has been two weeks in a row that we have played really good in the trenches. We are extremely physical. The guys are in the backfield stopping a running team from running the ball. Silsbee had to throw the ball, and they don't like doing that. The front seven played football really well."
