Tigers, Hawks win district titles

TEXARKANA, Texas - Texas High and Pleasant Grove won their respective district championships in team tennis this week.

The Tigers defeated previously unbeaten Longview, 10-4, for the District 15-5A title and Pleasant Grove dumped crosstown rival Liberty-Eylau, 10-0, to clinch the District 15-4A crown.

Both teams will advance as their league's top seed heading into next week's bi-district playoffs.

The Tigers will face Lufkin, 16-5A's fourth-place team in bi-district action at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hallsville High School. The Hawks will face Henderson, 16-4A's fourth-place finisher, in bi-district at 10 a.m.. Monday, also at Hallsville.

Liberty-Eylau, third in 15-4A, will collide with Bullard and Atlanta, the runner-up to Pleasant Grove, tangles with Kilgore in first-round playoff action.

Hawks soar by L-E

The Hawks defeated Liberty-Eylau, 10-0, to clinch their league championship. Pleasant Grove traveled to Hallsville and was leading 9-7 before play was suspended because of inclement weather.

Basketball

Warriors take two wins

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - Zack Franklin poured in 26 points as Trinity Christian crushed Columbia Christian, 73-35, in a senior boys basketball game earlier this week.

Zach Graf added 16 points for the Warriors.

Halston Baca and Nate Wall each fired in 24 points, and Trinity Christian won the junior boys game, 60-26.

Volleyball

Hallsville sweeps Hawks

HALLSVILLE, Texas - Hallsville swept three matches from Pleasant Grove on the Wildcats' home court. The Lady Hawks lost the varsity contest, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19.

Katie Ferguson had 10 kills and 12 set assists for the Hawks, Lexi Snyder served eight points, Ella Nichols 16 digs, Adi Koller 13 digs and Macy Young 10 assists.

Pleasant Grove lost the JV match, 25-19, 17-25, 25-19. Timia Cooks served 16 points for the Hawks.

Hallsville won the freshmen contest, 27-25, 25-21. Fallon Anthony had 11 service points for PG.

Atlanta defeats Lady Bears

ATLANTA, Texas - Anijah Gray had 10 service points and eight digs, but DeKalb fell to Atlanta, 25-15, 25-14, 20-25, 25-21, in a varsity volleyball match earlier this week.

Emily Murphy put down 10 kills for the Lady Bears, while teammate Emily Barrett made 10 assists.

The Lady Rabbs won the junior varsity match, 17-25, 25-9, 25-12. Emaleigh Barsz paced DeKalb with six service points.

Ashton Daniels had seven service points, including an ace, to lead the Bears to a 25-21, 25-16 sweep over Atlanta.

Subvarsity

L-E freshmen lose 28-24

GILMER, Texas - Gilmer defeated Liberty-Eylau, 28-24, in ninth grade football action Thursday.

The Leopards scores came on Hagen Power's 60-yard reception from Tavarious Neal, Kourtland Jordan's 30-yard run,

Jathan Malone's 60-yard run and Kaden Allen's 13-yard run.

L-E defensive standouts were Anthony Brown (fumble recovery), Greg London, Rashad Ganter. Offensive standout included: Anderson Douglas, Shamar Pickett and Neal.

Dragons downs Patriots

REDWATER, Texas - Gavin Carrell had two touchdown runs and a pair of 2-point conversion runs as Redwater's eighth grade routed Prairiland, 36-6, earlier this week.

Carrell's TD runs were from 61 and 13 yards out. Marquez Jones scampered 53 yards into the end zone for a Dragon score, while teammate Nick Farrar had a 9-yard TD run.

Andrew Willis had a 35-yard pick six for Redwater, Greer Early had two, 2-point conversion runs, Asa Hudson recovered a fumble and had 10 solo tackles and Colt Morrow recovered on onside kick. Morrow also had an interception.

The Patriots won the seventh grade game, 24-14. Carson Wheat had a 15-yard touchdown pass to Caden McClain. Wheat also had a 12-yard TD run for the Dragons, while Ryan Wood ran in a pair of 2-point conversions.

Tennis

THS JV wins crown

LONGVIEW, Texas Texas High's junior varsity defeated Longview's JV, 8-5, to win the District 15-5A championship.

The Tigers JV squad finished the season with an unbeaten record.

TMS drops two of three

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas - Texas Middle School lost two of three matches against Mount Pleasant.

The hosts won the eighth grade A match, 25-15, 25-17. Abbigale Roswell served five points and Alexandria Fyffe four points for TMS.

Texas Middle School won the seventh grade A contest, 22-25, 25-9, 25-12. Taryne Stiger served 18 points and Deja Aubrey 12 for the winners.

Mount Pleasant won the seventh grade B match, 19-25, 25-14, 15-12. Addison Keener had six service points and Claire Peek five points for TMS.

Lady Hawks sweep past Paris

TEXARKANA, Texas - Julianne Naples slapped in 12 service points to lead Pleasant Grove's eighth grade A team to a 25-22, 25-8 victory over Paris earlier this week.

The Lady Hawks won the eight grade B match, 25-15, 25-8.

Maggie Prejean served in 15 points as Pleasant Grove pulled out a hard-fought victory in the seventh grade A match, 22-25, 25-16, 26-24. Riley Byrne had 11 service points for the Hawks.

Layla Sanders' seven service points helped PG's seventh grade B team to a 25-13, 20-19 sweep over the Lady Cats.
