PG girls defeat Ashdown

TEXARKANA, Texas - Pleasant Grove defeated Ashdown in straight sets in varsity volleyball action Friday at Hawks Gym.

The Lady Hawks won, 25-7, 25-21, 25-16.

Harleigh O'Neal and Katie Ferguson served 12 and 10 points, respectively, Hallie Lipham had seven kills.

Pleasant Grove also won the junior varsity game, 25-7, 25-12.

The Hawks' next match will be at home Tuesday against Mounter Vernon.

 

James Bowie defeats Maud

SIMMS, Texas - James Bowie downed Maud in four sets as the Lady Pirates stayed unbeaten in District 17-2A play.

James Bowie (2-0 district won 19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-22.

The Pirates were led by Katie Jo Vaughn with 11 service points, Gracie Brown had 10 kills, Addison Hicks 11 digs and Emily Latham seven assists.

On Tuesday, James Bowie plays at Linden-Kildare and Maud plays host to Sulphur Bluff.

 

Cross Country

Two Tigers place sixth

HALLSVILLE, Texas - Texas High's Evan Likins finished sixth in the boys and Fezeka Barnes placed sixth in the girls cross country meet hosted by Hallville High School.

Likins was closed in 18:26 to spark the Tigers to a fifth-place finish. Other Texas High finishers were: Juan Carlos Coco (17th, 19:18.5), Gabriel Raley (21st, 19:41.2), Jeb White (27th, 20.11,0), Eli Likins (33rd, 20.33.7), Ian Childs (40th, 21.02.9) and Chapman White (51st, 21.55.1).

Barnes was clocked in 22.53.5 to claim sixth place in girls. Other THS competitors were: Valeria Perez (8th, 23.02.5), Daniela Urieta-Hernandez (27th, 26.22.6); Whitney Ankton 34th (27.57.2).
