UIL softball playoffs begin this week

Eleven local and area teams will participate in the bi-district round of the UIL state softball playoffs this week, starting today for a couple of squads.

Texas High and DeKalb begin their best-of-3 series today at Whitehouse and Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill, respectively.

THS squares off against Huntsville at 6 p.m. at Whitehouse, and the series resumes at 6 p.m. Friday at the same site. If a third game is needed, it will also be played Friday.

The Lady Bears face the home Lady Red Devils today at 6 p.m., and DeKalb will be home at 5 p.m. Friday for two games, if needed, in the Class 3A bi-district series.

Queen City and Redwater both qualified for the 3A playoffs but await Tuesday's outcome of a seeding game between Mount Vernon and Harmony to determine their opponent and other first round details.

Pleasant Grove will play Henderson in a Class 4A bi-district game in Thursday at 6 p.m. at Lady Maverick Field in Marshall.

Atlanta is home against Winnsboro at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to begin its 3A best-of-3 series. Friday the series moves to Winnsboro with a 6 p.m. start, and Game 3 will follow, if needed.

Hughes Springs clashes with Tatum in a 3A bi-district game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Spring Hill High School in Longview.

Linden-Kildare and Detroit meet in a 2A bi-district game at 6 p.m. Thursday at Paul Pewitt High School.

Maud faces Como-Pickton in a 2A bi-district series at Northeast Texas Community College. The teams will play twice on Thursday, staring at 5 p.m., and if a third game is needed, it will be at 7 p.m. Friday.

McLeod and Rivercrest will meet at Hughes Springs High School to settles a 2A best-of-3 series with 5 p.m. starts on Thursday and Friday. If a third game is necessary, it will be played at noon Saturday.

James Bowie and Alba-Golden will play a 2A bi-district game at 5 p.m. Friday at Longview's Lady Lobo Field.
