McLeod splits in playoff games

PARIS, Texas - The community of McLeod was privileged with having to go to one location to support their Longhorn basketball program in the state playoffs.

The Lady Longhorns (17-5) fell to Alvord in their area round game Monday night at Wildcat Gym on the campus of Paris High School, 75-48.

In the nightcap, the Longhorns (19-5) throttled Quinlan Boles in their bi-district playoff basketball game, 85-39.

McLeod will face Lindsay in the area round later this week.

GIRLS

Alvord began the fourth quarter with a 28-point lead and there wasn't much McLeod could do after that.

Alvord continued pouring in the points to open the second half.

The Bulldogs edged the Longhorns, 12-5, with 5:00 to play in the third quarter.

Alvord won the turnover battle with McLeod, forcing 20 Longhorn turnovers, while committing 13 turnovers.

Sibbie Comer added two treys in the third quarter for the Longhorns.

Kaitlyn Cross stole a Bulldog pass at the half court line, going the distance for a layup at the 2:00 mark before halftime, slicing the Alford lead to 25 points, 39-14.

Emma Lambeth weaved through their Bulldog defense for a layup to cut the Alvord cushion, 37-10.

Lambeth finished with 10 points for McLeod.

Cross stopped a 7-0 Alvord offensive runto begin the second period, knocking down both of her free throws.

The Bulldogs opened the game on a 7-0 run t the 7:04 mark, behind consecutive baskets from Rachae Fowler.

Fowler finished with a game-high 30 points.

Tawni Hamilton drained a trey and a layup for Alvord, giving the Bulldogs a 12-0 cushion with 5:30 in the first period.

Hamilton added 14 points for the Bulldogs and Katie Slaten chipped in nine points.

McLeod broke their scoring drought midway through the period when Cross drained both of her shots form the charity stripe.

The Bulldogs paced the Longhorns after the first quarter, 23-6.

BOYS

McLeod entered the final quarter with a 66-21 advantage over Quinlan Boles.

Keldyn Schubert led all scorers with a game-high 33 points for the Longhorns and teammate Silas Murdock added 11 points.

McLeod held a 52-16 lead at the 5:00 mark in the third period and never looked back.

The Longhorns won the turnover battle in the first half, forcing 10 Bulldog blunders, while committing five.

McLeod opened the second quarter with a double-digit and only compounded more points during the quarter.

Now Gryder added 12 points for McLeod.

The. Longhorns were on a 10-3 run, forcing Boles to call timeout to regroup.

Tyler Williams drained a corner trey for McLeod, giving the Longhorns a 23-point cushion, 35-12.

Williams ended the game with 11 points for the Longhorns.

The Longhorns jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the Hornets in the first few minutes of the game, before Boles was able to answer back.

Schubert stole a Boles pass at the midline and went to the basket to regain the lead for the Longhorns, 8-5.

Santiago Sanjines led the Hornets with 10 points.
