Rabbits face Arp in second round

LONGVIEW, Texas - Atlanta looks to extend its postseason run and 13-game win streak against Arp today in the Class 3A area boys basketball playoffs.

The Rabbits (17-4) and Tigers (17-6) square off at 6:30 p.m. at Longview's Lobo Coliseum.

Atlanta defeated a feisty Winnsboro team, 77-62, in the bi-district round on Monday, and Arp eliminated Gladewater, 67-39, Tuesday.

"We played well against Winnsboro, but got into foul trouble in the first half to enable them to get back in the game," Rabbit coach Jarrod Boston said. "We came out in the third quarter and out-scored them 15-2 in about three minutes, and then we basically cruised to the win."

Daimion Collins, an All-American and Kentucky signee, had a triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks in the first round game. Kam Dickerson scored 18, Keyshawn Easter added 14 points, seven steals and four assists, and Alex Boston scored 12 points.

Against Gladewater, the Tigers built a 16-8 lead in the first quarter and were ahead 44-21 at half. Johnathan Blackwell averages 18.6 points per game for Arp, and Colton Birdsong averages 15.2 points. Kadaylon Williams pulls down 9.2 rebounds per game, and Blackwell averages 7.7 boards.

The Tigers average 41 percent shooting from the field.

The winner advances to the regional quarterfinals later this week against either Mineola or Jefferson.
