Lady Hawks win two, lose one on the road

WHITE OAK, Texas - Pleasant Grove's softball team played three games in three days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday), winning two of the three on the road.

The Lady Hawks won their first two games, pounding Palestine Westwood, 17-0, in 3 innings, and downing Ore City, 8-5.

On Saturday, White Oak scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of sixth to edge Pleasant Grove, 2-1.

Lexie Snyder went the distance for the Hawks against the Lady Roughnecks, giving up seven hits and striking out six. She walked one. Both White Oak runs were earned.

Snyder had one of the Hawks seven hits and she scored her team's lone run on a triple by Adi Koller. Koller was 3-for-3 to lead the PG offense.

The Hawks took care of Westwood by the 15-run rule after 3 innings. They erupted for 14 second-inning runs and finished with 13 hits.

Zoe Smith knocked in three runs and Presley Humphrey, Haylie Teague and Snyder drove in two runs each. Humphrey had three hits, Snyder two hits and scored three runs and winning pitcher Harleigh O'Neal cracked one of four PG doubles.

O'Neal didn't give up a hit in three innings, striking out four and walking one.

Pleasant Grove took advantage of six hits and six errors by Ore City in defeating the Lady Rebels. Only two of the Hawks' runs were earned.

Snyder had two hits and scored three runs. Humphrey also had a hit and an RBI and Natalie Nicholson had a double and drove in three runs.

Snyder picked up the pitching win in relief of O'Neal.

Pleasant Grove returns home Tuesday to play host against Emory Rains.

Baseball

Liberty-Eylau 5, Hooks 5

HOOKS, Texas - Liberty-Eylau scored three runs in the fifth to force a 5-5 tie with the host Hornets on Thursday. Hooks earlier rolled to an easy win over homestanding Paris Chisum, 11-1.

Hooks scored three runs to take a 5-2 lead into the fifth frame, but the Leopards rallied to tie the game.

The Leopards' Bryce Blackwell had one of three L-E hits and drove in three runs. Zach Brush had a run-scoring triple. Nate Moore was 0-for-2, but he scored twice for L-E.

Hooks' Logan Davis had two hits to drive in four runs. Tye Thomerson also had a hit and an RBI.

The Hornets rode a 14-hit assault in downing Chisum in a 5-inning contest. Matthew Hays, Thomerson and Davis had three hits each for Hooks, and C Jones had two hits and plated two runs.

Tennis

Texas High in Prosper

PROSPER, Texas - Texas High continued to face tough, upper-classification opponents when the Tiger varsity competed in the Prosper Invitational on Friday.

"We are very pleased with the fight these kids showed during a long day of tennis today," said Texas High coach Toby Watson.

The doubles team of Maddy Bixler and Laykyn Austin won first place in Girls B Doubles. Carter Shuffield and Bella Murdock won first place in the consolation division of Mixed B Doubles.

Nickey Pappas won the consolation title in the Boys A Singles; Marlee Bledsoe paced second in Girls A Singles; Lydia Lee and Reagan Potts captured third place in Girls A Doubles; and Ned Sandefur and William Soyars were fourth in Boys B Doubles.

Texas High's next match will be March 5 in the Longview Invitational.
