PG posts a win, two ties at tourney

MARSHALL, Texas - Pleasant Grove won and tied a pair of games Friday in the Marshall Softball Tournament.

The Lady Hawks banged out 12 hits in beating Central Heights, 8-1. They also scored two runs in the sixth inning to force a 2-2 tie with the host Lady Mavericks.

MJ Williams went 3 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Lady Hawks to the victory over Central Heights. Adi Koller had an RBI triple for Pleasant Grove, while teammate Harleigh O'Neal doubled, singled and drove in a run.

Presley Humphrey smacked a 2-run double for the Hawks, while Timia Cooks and Lexie Snyder each had an RBI.

O'Neal earned the win in the circle, gave up a run on three hits, walked one and struck out five for Pleasant Grove.

In the tie against Marshall, Snyder tossed seven innings, gave up two runs on six hits and struck out eight for the Hawks. Snyder also had two hits at the dish.

Koller had an RBI triple, and teammate Zoe Smith added an RBI for the Hawks.

Hawks in Longview

LONGVIEW, Texas - Pleasant Grove competed against a 25-team field Thursday in the Longview tennis tournament.

Here are the Hawks' top finishes:

Mixed Doubles: Grant Mitchell and Rose Anderson third; Spencer Potts and Ramsey Noble third consolation;

Girls Doubles: Autumn Crouch and Courtney Kirk, sixth; Anna Guan and Lilly Pace seventh;

Boys Doubles: Chance Tutolo and William Saldino fourth; Stone Robertson and Jack Humphrey consolation finalist;

Boys Singles: Rhett Gatlin fifth.

Pleasant Grove's next match will be March 11 at Longview Spring Hill.

Softball

Atlanta nips DeKalb

ATLANTA, Texas - Freshman Tori Clayton smacked a pair of home runs in the Lady Rabb's 7-6 victory over DeKalb.

Atlanta won in walk-off fashion, thanks to a fielder's choice by Kinlee Hamilton to drive in the winning run in the seventh.

Both teams had nine hits.

Jordan Hodge earned the win for Atlanta, pitching 6 2/3 innings, allowing nine hits and six runs. She struck out six and walked one.

Clayton clubbed her homers in the third and fifth innings.

Clayton and Valerie Mason had multiple hits for the Rabbs Varsity.

Track and field

Brahma Relays

NAPLES-OMAHA, Texas - Queen City's boys rolled up 201 points to win their division in the Sibley Brahma Relays Friday at Paul Pewitt High School.

Redwater was second with 154 points and Pewitt third with 142.

The Lady Dragons captured top honors in the girls with 158 points, followed by New Boston with 134 and Queen City with 132. Complete results can be found in Sunday's Gazette.
