Lady Tigers triumph in district opener

TEXARKANA, Texas - Texas High opened District 15-5A volleyball play with a straight-set victory over Pine Tree Friday in the Tiger Center.

The Lady Tigers won, 25-16, 25-22, 25-6.

Jaycee Kennedy had nine kills and three blocks for Texas High, Valeria Perez had 16 points and 15 digs, Bella Cherry 13 assists, 11 pointts and seven kills, and Mally Lumpkin 13 points and eight kills.

The Lady Tigers improve to 15-10 overall and 1-0 in district while Pine Tree falls to 8-10, 0-1.

Texas High won the junior varsity match, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, with Caroline Taylor serving 18 points for the winners.

The Lady Pirates won the freshmen match, 25-13, 30-29. Abby Shults led the Tigers with 10 points.

Texas High returns to district action Tuesday at Sulphur Springs.

Lady Dawgs win in 5

QUEEN CITY, Texas - Queen City celebrated Homecoming in style, coming out a winner despite being pushed to the maximum five sets by Pittsburg.

The two teams split the first four sets before the Lady Bulldogs squeezed out a 15-13 win in the final set, providing QC with a 3-2 victory.

Chyna Stiger ignited the Bulldogs with 17 service points, including six aces, seven kills and three digs, Lauren Carrell added a season-high 14 kills and five digs, Mallori Stringer had 29 assists, six kills, five digs and two blocks, and Trinity Oden eight service points (four aces) and five kills.

Brenna Turbeville added 14 digs for the Dawgs (5-7), who open District 14-3A play Tuesday at Atlanta.

Elyssia Lemelle and Chelsey Blalock, both juniors, served 12 points each for Pittsburg (16-11).

Avery falls in opener

AVERY, Texas - Avery played a tough five-set match before falling to Detroit in the District 17-2A opener for both teams.

The Lady Bulldogs (3-5) lost the match, 25-12, 25-18, 25-20, 27-25, 15-12.

Katie Baird had 18 service points and 52 assists for Avery, and Jalyn Ingram had 29 kills and 32 digs. Riley Gilreath also slapped 30 kills for the Bulldogs.

Avery won the JV match, 25-21, 25-22. Rhalynn Freeman served 19 winners for the hosts.

The Bulldogs return to district action Tuesday at Rivercrest (Bogata).
