TEXARKANA, Texas — Work on the hill led to a game one win in the twin bill.

Cole Connolly pitched a complete game, seven-inning performance of 5-hit ball to lead Texas A&M University-Texarkana to a 4-1 win over Friends University in the first game of a doubleheader at George Dobson Field on Friday.

Friends, from Wichita, Kan., came back and rallied for a 6-4 victory in the nightcap, salvaging a split of the doubleheader.

 

First Game

The Eagles' pitching was solid in the opener, with Connolly striking out five and walking two.

Jaylan Prince led the Eagles at the plate as he went 3 for 3 with two RBI, while teammate Brandon Riley was 3 for 3 with an RBI.

Joe Pearlman, who singled to third, scored on an RBI single to third by Chris McGinty to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead in the first. Prince singled to right center to put two on, but the Falcons got out of the frame with no further damage.

Riley smacked a single to right center for A&M-Texarkana in the second, but was thrown out trying to steal second.

Pearlman led off the third with a bunt single and moved up to second on Brayden Cook's bunt. Cook was safe at first after an error.

McGinty single to the third-base side to load the bases for Prince, who hit a 2-run single to right center. The runs padded the Eagles' lead, 3-0.

Riley laced in an RBI single to score Wyatt Stavinoha, who reached on an error, to make it 4-0 going into the top of the fifth.

Ricardo Paris' sacrifice fly RBI in the fifth gave the Falcons their only run of the game.

With a runner on in the seventh, Connolly induced a fly to center to end the game.

 

Second Game

Friends scored five runs in the third and held off the hosts, who closed the gap with a four-ruin fourth.

The Falcons had nine hits and the Eagles six. Zac Harrington took the pitching loss, going 4 2/3 innings, giving up 8 hits and 6 earned run. He fanned three and walked one.

Pearlman paced T-A&M with a double and two RBI, and Kealon Martin and Cal Hodgins had a hit and RBI apiece. Chris McGinty also had a double for the Eagles.

Gabriel Corona had two hits and two RBI, Eric Escamilla a hit and two RBI and Ricardo Paris two hits and an RBI for Friends.
