JONESBORO, Ark. — Arkansas High's varsity girls bowling team finished in seventh place at the annual state meet in Jonesboro on Thursday.

Greenbrier finished in first place and Mountain Home placed second.

Brianna Plant led the Lady Backs with a score of 442, Kailey Burns scored a 421 and Hannah Phillips finished with a score of 414.

"Well I feel good, but we didn't do as well as the girls wanted to do," Arkansas High head bowling coach Charlie Bateman said. "I had an idea of how we would perform. They never gave up, and I was really proud of that. They bowled three games and four baker's games; they hung right there till the very end. I was proud of them for that.

"They didn't care what place they were in. They continued to push each other, but it just didn't pan out. Bottom line is this—there were some really good teams in the tournament. It is what it is. They did the very best they could and hung in there."

Arkansas High's Noah Gladden bowled a 544 in the boys division, finishing 17th overall.
