KILGORE, Texas — The Class 4A bi-district baseball series between Liberty-Eylau and Kilgore was like a heavyweight championship bout, with the knockout blows going back and forth.

The Leopards (22-6-2) edged the Bulldogs (16-11) Friday night at Driller Park in the Whataburger Sports Complex, 3-2.

Both teams have won a game in the best-of-three series. The third game was being played following a short break after Friday night's game 2.

Colby Brooks drove in Braylon Blair for the Leopards at the top of the second inning for the first score of the contest.

Brooks went 3 for 4 with a RBI for L-E, while teammate Blair finished 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored.

Parker Goodman started on the bump for the Leopards. Goodman tossed 6 innings, gave up three runs and five hits.

Dalton McElyea pitched 5 1/3 innings for the Bulldogs. McElyea struck out seven batters, gave up six hits and one run.

McElyea also finished 2 for 3 at the dish for Kilgore with a double.

Nate Moore added two singles for the Leopards and teammate Xander Worthy added a single. Moore drove in Blair in the top of the sixth inning, on a bunt back to the pitcher, giving L-E a 2-0 lead with one out.

Donovan Adkins, Cade Pippen and Chris Ervin added singles. Pippen broke the Bulldogs' scoring drought in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring on a L-E wild pitch.

Hunter Pipak drove in Ervin and McElyea for Kilgore, giving the Bulldogs their first lead of the night, 3-2.

The Leopards won the series opener, 3-1, Thursday night on L-E's home diamond.
