SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas — Despite cloudy skies, the stars shone brightly for the Brahmas.

Paul Pewitt romped past Bells, 53-20, in a Region 3-3A, Division II playoff football game at Gerald Prim Stadium on Friday.

"The guys came out and played hard," Brahmas head coach Triston Abron said. "I was impressed with the way we played because we didn't have a good week of practice. I was a little concerned coming in, but we got out here, the lights came on and it was go time. I was pleased with the tenacity we played with. I hope we can keep moving on, keep playing hard and keep doing what we're doing."

Paul Pewitt (121) quarterback Cross Holder scored three rushing touchdowns and ran in three 2-point conversions. Holder finished with 77 yards on eight totes.

Kadrien Johnson rushed for a game-high 152 yards on just seven carries for Pewitt, including long runs of 53 and 48 yards.

Deiontray Hill hit paydirt on a 3-yard run and La-Jathan Allen ran in the 2-points conversion to give the Brahmas a 38-7 advantage with 10:06 to go in the third.

Bells (9-4) scored on a 2-yard run to make it 38-13 after its 2-point run failed.

Johnson found an opening and rushed 17 yards for the Pewitt touchdown. Holder ran in his third, 2-point conversion to make it 46-13.

Holder broke free on a 25-yard run to assure the blowout, 53-13 with 11:14 left in the fourth.

Bells scored late on a 1-yard run and kicked in the PAT for a final score of 53-20.

Paul Pewitt took a 23-point lead into halftime. Cross Holder scored the first Brahma touchdown on a 1-yard plunge and ran in the 2-point conversion.

Bells scored on a 2-yard run to make it a 1-point game, 8-7.

But the second quarter would belong to Paul Pewitt, who outscored the Panthers, 22-0.

Holder found an opening and sped to the the end zone on a 31-yard touchdown run and ran in the 2-point conversion for the Brahmas.

La-Jathan Allen had a 3-yard touchdown run to make it 22-7. Holder put on the finishing second-quarter barrage with a 6-yard TD run. Deiontray Hill made a hard-nosed run as he added the 2-point conversion.

Allen stripped the ball from a Bells receiver in the second quarter and jumped on the ball for the Pewitt recovery.

The Brahmas will face either Newton or Daingerfield in a Region 3-3A, Division II finals game next week.
