HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas — Pleasant Grove's season ended after a battle.

The Lady Hawks fell to Gilmer, 23-25, 27-25, 25-11, 25-22, in a Class 4A bi-district playoff volleyball match at Mustang Gym on Tuesday.

"This group does everything possible to make sure everyone on the team feels equal," Pleasant Grove head coach Amy Collvins said. "They go out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable and included. We have that family atmosphere, and it has been awesome all year."

Pleasant Grove was unable to take a lead in the fourth set. The Hawks chipped away at the Buckeyes and tied the match at 22-all. But the Gilmer scored three straight on unforced errors to earn the win.

Rachel Leach had a winner, Georgia Cobb and Katie Ferguson each had a kill, and Harleigh O'Neal had two blocks in the fourth set for Pleasant Grove.

The first set featured just four ties at 6, 7, 11 and 23-all. The Hawks trailed just once in the set at 7-6.

Cobb put down a kill for the first point of the set. Snyder fired in an ace, and the Buckeyes had a hitting error that gave Pleasant Grove an early 3-0 lead.

Young took the service line, and Gilmer had two hitting errors to pad the Hawks' lead 20-14.

The Buckeyes rallied later in the set to knot it at 23-23. Ferguson put down a clutch kill that gave PG the serve back up 24-23. The set ended on a Gilmer hitting error.

The second set was a roller coaster that started on the downhill for the Hawks but soon climbed back up.

Gilmer jumped out to a 9-1 lead, but Pleasant Grove chipped away and closed to within four at 15-11.

Georgia Cobb angled a kill down on the left parallel to give the Hawks the serve down 17-14. The Buckeyes had two hitting errors and Cobb blazed in another kill to knot the set at 17-all.

Ferguson took the server's line with PG down 24-23. She served in two to give the Hawks a 25-24 edge.

But Gilmer put down two kills to push it to set point and an unforced error gave the Buckeyes the set win.

The third set belonged to Gilmer as Pleasant Grove committed 17 unforced errors. The Buckeyes had just seven errors in the set.

Hallie Lipham had a tip that went for a winner and kill in the third set, while teammate Cobb had a pair of kills.

Cobb finished with eight kills, Ferguson put down eight kills, nine digs and 12 assists for Pleasant Grove.

Lexi Snyder led the team with 17 digs, Ella Nichols had 11 and Adi Koller had nine. Macy Young finished with 10 assists for the Hawks.
