MARSHALL, Texas — Pleasant Grove (13-9-2) begins its softball playoff journey today at Marshall High School's Lady Maverick Field.

The Hawks take on Henderson (11-10) in a Class 4A, bi-district playoff softball game at 5:30 p.m. Pleasant Grove comes in as the No. 3 seed out of District 15-4A, while the Lady Lions are the No. 2 seed out of District 16-4A.

"They have a good bunch and have a good little pitcher," Hawks head coach Becca Collom said. "We will just need to come out and play our game.

"Number one, we need to come out hungry to hit their pitcher. We recently hit well against Gilmer, who has a little better pitcher. Hopefully we can carry some tenacity into the game. We need to come out swinging hard early, make good contact and have quality at-bats. One thing we have keyed on this week is our base running. We want to make sure we put ourselves in an opportunity to advance and take extra bases where we can. We'll need Lexie (Snyder) to pitch a great game and for our defense to stay tight."

Lexie Snyder is set to start in the circle for Pleasant Grove. Rounding out the Hawk roster are Natalie Nickolson, Zoe Smith, Izzy Hackleman, Ann Elise Lindsay, Timia Cooks, Harleigh O'Neal, Adi Koller, Haylie Teague, Presley Humphrey, MJ Williams, Kaylee Gann, Hailey Allen and Dakaria Moreland.

"The girls are excited and ready to go," Collom said. "We have a 1-gamer to take care of business so they are fired up."

The winner tangles with either Farmersville or Brownsboro in a Class 4A, area playoff game next week.
