PARIS, Texas — Pleasant Grove pushed across eight runs in the third inning and run-ruled Farmersville, 14-0, in a Class 4A area round softball playoff game at Paris Chisum High School's Lady Mustang Field on Friday.

"I am fired up that the girls came out with aggression and attacked early," Lady Hawks head coach Becca Collom said. "We showed up. They did a great job of adjusting in the at-bat and from one at-bat to the other. We did a better job on the bases and increased our production. Fr0m batters one through nine, we were attacking the balls. We had a lot of quality at-bats and saw a lot of pitches after two strikes. I am thrilled."

Lexie Snyder earned the win in the circle, threw a 3-hitter shutout, struck out five and walked one for Pleasant Grove, which earned a Class 4A area championship with the victory.

"Lexie did a great job," Collom said. "She was keeping her pitches low and working them. We got them to chase some and forced a lot of ground balls. The defense made great plays behind her.

"We did a good job of staying calm when we had a couple of things happen that didn't go as planned. We did a good job of not just sitting on our lead. We came out and got more. We tightened up some things that we needed to after working all week. They showed up and did it."

The Lady Hawks put up eight runs on five hits and two Lady Farmer errors. Snyder and Harleigh O'Neal each had an RBI single in the frame, while Adi Koller and MJ Williams both singled.

Timia Cooks smacked a 3-run triple to right center for Pleasant Grove in the third. The triple gave the Hawks a 12-0 lead.

Snyder doubled in the fourth and stole third base. Snyder scored on Natalie Nickolson's groundout to pad the PG advantage, 13-0.

Williams singled in the fifth and scored on Ann Elise Lindsay's groundout as the Hawks grabbed a 14-0 lead.

Snyder, the first batter of the game, crushed a solo home run over the left-center field wall to give Pleasant Grove a quick 1-0 edge. Adi Koller singled down the first-base line, and Presley Humphrey walked. Williams slapped a Texas leaguer to left center as two runs scored to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead. Lindsay smacked an RBI single to center as Pleasant Grove took a 4-0 cushion into the bottom of the first.

Nickolson doubled to left field on a hard hit ball with an out in the second for Pleasant Grove. Zoe Smith followed with a single to left to move Nickolson to third. Courtesy runner Kaylee Gann was thrown out at second trying to steal, and the next batter popped up to end the frame.

The Hawks will play either Van or Gilmer in the Class 4A regional quarterfinals next week.
