TEXARKANA, Texas — Paris totaled 444 rushing yards to Pleasant Grove's 212 en route to a 31-14 victory in a varsity football game on Friday at Hawk Stadium.
Jaylen Boardley led the Hawks with 114 yards on 17 totes, an average of 6.7 yards per touch, and a touchdown. His mark of 114 yards led all rushers.
Lyric Tredwell and JohQuan Caldwell each topped the Wildcats with 112 yards rushing, Tredwell on 14 attempts and Caldwell with 12 carries.
Boardley's 8-yard score with 7:05 left in the second quarter was set up by Keilin Benton's 73-yard kickoff return.
Paul Torres booted a 28-yard field goal for Paris, which gave the Wildcats an early 3-0 lead with 8:57 in the second. Boardley's TD gave Pleasant Grove a 7-3 lead. It would be its only lead of the game.
Hawks' quarterback Jarret Halter threw for 78 yards on 7-of-12 passing with a touchdown and two interceptions. Halter, a freshman, found freshman Lance Jackson in the end zone on a 5-yard TD pass with 9 seconds left in the contest.
The game was plagued with penalties on each side, which at times affected the flow of the game. Pleasant Grove had two turnovers, while Paris (2-1) had one, a fumble that was recovered by Makyron Whitaker.
Wildcat starting quarterback Luke Hohenberger threw for 48 yards on 3-of-7 passing with a touchdown. Hohenberger rushed five times for 19 yards.
Pleasant Grove (1-2) plays Silsbee at Nacogdoches High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
