WHITEHOUSE, Texas — Texas High begins its perennial journey in the state softball playoffs against a tough opponent.

The Lady Tigers face seventh-ranked Huntsville in a Class 5A best-of-3 bi-district series at Lady Cat Field on the campus of Whitehouse High School. Game 1 is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today.

The series returns to Whitehouse for a 6 p.m. Friday, and if the series if tied, a third game will follow a brief intermission.

"We've been playing fairly well lately," veteran THS coach Robbie Hatfield said. "We made some position changes midseason, and it made our defense stronger. That's helped."

The Tigers only have one senior on its roster heading into the playoffs in first baseman Mollie Johnson.

Liz Smith has been a consistent starter in the circle, and Lauren Allred has transitioned well behind the plate. Vanessa Perez plays second, Mollie Fisher starts at shortstop, and Emma Prince at third. The outfield features Ashanti Northcross in left, Valeria Perez in center and Kaitlyn Williams in right.

Alex Reed has been the designated player, and Olivia Huckabee has been the top reliever for Smith.

"We've had some girls, like Allred and Fisher, who have been consistent at the plate all year," Hatfield said. "But lately, we've had other girls step up and swing the bats real well. We're going to have to play well as a team, and come up with some key hits in this series.

"These girls have worked hard all season, and it took a lot of hard work to get out of district and into the playoffs. I'm proud of them and their efforts."

The winner advances to the area round next week to face either Forney or Midlothian.
