HALLSVILLE, Texas — Texas High varsity lost to Hallsville 6-2 on Tuesday.

"Defensive woes continue to be a challenge for our young team," said THS Coach Jesus Deleon after the game.

The Tigers gave up four unanswered goals in the first half, but were able to match the home team's scoring in the second half.

The Tigers midfield fought a frenzied midfield presence from Hallsville to a draw for the first 20 minutes of the first half. At that point, the Bobcats found the soft spot of the Tigers back line and scored their first goal on a breakaway.

Hallsville's second goals came after a Texas High defender missed his clearance creating a one on one for the Bobcats with the Tiger keeper. The third goal came for the Bobcats in the 37th minute when they attacked down the left side of the Tigers defense and then passed to an unmarked attacker in the right side of the area for a goal.

The final goal in the half came on a penalty kick awarded to Hallsville when Daniel Lee of the Tigers nicked the Bobcat attacker's heal in the penalty area. Lee received a yellow card on the play. The half ended with a good chance by Austin Miller for the Tigers that did not find the net.

The second half was tame until the 53rd minute of the match, at which point THS's Jonathan Simon got into a brush up with a Hallsville defender in the front of their goal. The incident resulted in a yellow card for the Hallsville player and red card for Simon. The result of this card was another match where the Tigers completed the game down a player.

In the same minute Hallsville got their fifth goal of the match.

Strangely the Tiger offense appeared to improve with a man down. Miller scored a goal in the 55th minute of the match and followed it up with a second goal 13 minutes later.

Hallsville answered the Texas goal in the 71st minute giving the match its final score 6-2.

Deleon said he was encouraged by his team's response to halftime adjustments, noting both goals were scored when they were a man down.

"We finished it in a positive way" he said.

(The Tigers take on the Longview Lobos tonight at Grim Stadium in Texarkana. JV begins at 5:30 and Varsity at 7 p.m.)
