
TEXARKANA, Texas — Austin Miller scored two quick goals, staking the Texas High boys soccer team to a 2-0 lead against the Atlanta Rabbits at Grim Stadium Tuesday evening.
A goal from the Rabbits' Jonathan Durant got Atlanta back in contention in
the twelfth minute of the match. A minute later Anderson Escobar answered for the Tigers who never looked back in route to 15-1 victory.
Miller ended the night with 8 goals (2', 8', 17', 18', 19', 48', 56', 61'). Vincente Jaralillo scored his first varsity goal and added two more to post a hat trick on the evening ( 25', 37', 76'). Juan Carlos Coc Coc (53'), Alijah Garza (71') and Reece Gaylor (79') rounded out the Tiger scoring.
Coach Jesus Deleon praised the efforts of his Tigers, "They had a good scrimmage," he said. "We were able to give all the players some game action."
Coach Deleon looks forward to their upcoming tournament.
JV coach and varsity assistant Zak McCarthy noted the exceptional play of five JV players called up for this match.
"They all stepped up to the occasion and made the transition look seamless," he said. "Proud of them all."
The Tigers return to the pitch Thursday evening in Pittsburg, Texas, against Carthage as they begin tournament play.
