Acadiana and the Texarkana Twins got physical Monday at George Dobson Field in a game that saw the Twins rally for four runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 7-6 victory.
Two collisions at the plate went in favor of the Twins, but a third between Texarkana pitcher Trey Morris and first baseman Cole Coffee in the sixth proved costly.
All was forgiven in the ninth when two Acadiana pitchers walked four and gave up three hits.
Reliever Hayden Marze walked Cale Ridling and Blake Porter before giving way to Emily Lege, who walked Halter to load the bases with nobody out. Ridling scored on a sacrifice fly by Chandler Robertson, and two pitches later Alex Rodriguez tied the score with a double to right-center.
Kyle Bottger drew an intentional walk, and Johnny Gonzalez reloaded the bases with a bloop hit to left. That's when Drake Osborn drilled a 1-1 offering from Lege to the right field fence for the win.
Morris, a TCU hurler, had to leave the game with a 2-1 lead, and it didn't take the Cane Cutters long to capture a 4-3 lead. It was 3-1 when ninth-place hitter Kelsey Richard lofted a 2-run homer over the left field fence in the seventh.
Morris was taken to a local hospital where it was determined he had a sprained ankle.
Texarkana's first two errors cost it a run in the seventh that proved decisive. A third miscue cost the Twins two unearned runs in the eighth.
The Twins scored first when Acadiana starter walked Gunner Halter and Robertson to start Texarkana's half of the first inning. A double steal was successful, and Halter would score on a sacrifice fly by Rodriguez.
The Cane Cutters' first two hits in the fourth brought their first run home.
Ridling walked to start the Twins' fifth, and he moved up on Porter's sacrifice bunt. He reached third on a single by Halter, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Robertson.
Doubles by Rodriguez and Gonzalez gave the Twins a 3-1 advantage in the bottom of the sixth.
Texarkana is currently fourth in the Texas Collegiate League with five games left. If the Twins can hold that position they would advance to the postseason.
The Twins and Acadiana play again tonight.
