Arkansas coaches able to communicate through digital means

LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Activities Association announced Monday that while the Dead Period continues to be active through April 17, coaches may use digital platforms to interact with student athletes.

Prior to Monday, there was to be no contact between coaches and their players.

With the Dead Period still intact, school's athletic facilities remain closed to student athletes, and coaches are not allowed in-person contact with student athletes, whether it is on or off school grounds.

In Texas the suspension of UIL competition is still extended through May 4.

Last week, however, the UIL started allowing digital interactions between student athletes and coaches.

"During statewide school suspension, remote learning/coaching of UIL activities is allowed through electronic, video or teleconferencing-type methods. Schools shall limit instruction for UIL activities to a maximum of eight hours per week per activity in addition to a maximum of sixty minutes per day Monday through Friday," according to the press release addressing digital contact for Texas coaches and players.

"For athletic activities that are out of season, schools shall limit remote instruction to a maximum of sixty minutes per day Monday through Friday."
