In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Texas Collegiate League has decided to delay the start of its 2020 season.

The TCL voted unanimously to move the season-opener to July 3 to provide franchises ample time to prepare and ensure safety of all involved, including fans, its website stated.

"As we have to address uncertain times across two states, we wanted to provide the best possibility to have baseball back for the athletes and most importantly an opportunity for fans and families to be a part of the TCL this season. Therefore, the decision to move the start date made the most sense and this time," said TCL League President Uri Geva.

The defending champion Brazos Valley Bombers will take on the Victoria Generals for a two-game series in Victoria, Texas, to celebrate the return of summer play.

Going into their fourth season, the 2019 runner-up Texarkana Twins will begin seeing action on July 6, when they hit the road to face the Baton Rouge Rougarou in a two-game series, according to the schedule posted on TCL's website. The team's home opener will be against the Acadiana Cane Cutters on July 8.

"We know how important sports are to help us all get acclimated back to a new normal, and we're proud to be part of this incredible community we call home; We're working closely with health care officials to determine the best new ways to ensure the safety of our players, host families, and fans as they attend Rougarou games this summer," said Geva, the team's founder.

The Twins' updated schedule will feature five home weekend dates and home games versus the Bombers, Generals, Cane Cutters and the Rougarou, according to the team's press release. To celebrate the return of summer baseball, the Twins are unveiling a special season ticket package for $60, which includes "a full season of fun in Texarkana."
