Dixie series to hold opening ceremony today

The Dixie Youth Baseball Regional World Series will begin with opening ceremonies today, and games on tap at Ed Worrell Memorial Park scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

There are 51 teams in five divisions entered in the World Series, with games in 6-under tee-ball, 6-under coach pitch, 7-under coach pitch, 9-under kid pitch and 11-under kid pitch games being played on all six fields.

The World Series Opening Ceremonies will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Arkansas High's Razorback Stadium. About 1,000 players representing seven states will participate in the event.

Teams qualified for the Regional World Series hail from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. Friday and Saturday will be pool play with games starting at 8 a.m. and running until 10 p.m.

Sunday a single elimination bracket will be drawn up to determine the champions in each division.
