L-E ISD board will hold meeting Tuesday

TEXARKANA, Texas - Liberty-Eylau Independent School District's board of trustees will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday to consider a bid for surplus property and to interview candidates for a seat on the board.

Members will consider a bid for 4.5 acres the district owns on the corner of 2516 and Starlite Road.

District spokesman Matt Fry said the property was donated to the school in 1964 after it had been in the custodianship of the county judge since 1904. The area has been used for outdoor classrooms in the past, he said, but some trees had to be removed from the property and class scheduling conflicts have hindered student use.

The board has also received previous offers for the parcel, but did not accept them, Fry said.

In other business, trustees will interview two candidates for the trustee seat left open by Cliff Martin's resignation in November. Martin, who had been on the board since 2014, resigned for personal reasons during the board's last regular meeting on Nov. 21.

Becky Fellers and Corey Robinson will be interviewed for the position.

The meeting will be held in the Board Room, 2901 Leopard Drive, Texarkana, Texas.
