VanDeaver announces re-election bid

NEW BOSTON, Texas - State Rep. Gary VanDeaver has formally announced a bid for re-election in 2020.

A former public school superintendent, VanDeaver, R-New Boston, first took office in 2014 and was re-elected in 2016 and 2018. He represents Texas House District 1, which comprises Bowie, Lamar, Franklin and Red River counties.

"Representing my northeast Texas home in the Texas House is an honor and a privilege. I'm running for re-election to build on our accomplishments ... and to strengthen our region's economy so that future generations can live, raise a family, and prosper here," VanDeaver said in a news release.

VanDeaver had confirmed he was again running for office during a town hall meeting a month ago at Texarkana College.

VanDeaver and his wife of 34 years, Pam, are members of First Baptist Church in New Boston, where he serves as a deacon. The VanDeavers are the parents of two daughters and have two granddaughters.
