Sparklight seeking to help during COVID cash crunch

During the COVID crisis, many community-support organizations have found the public depending on them more than ever - just at a time when circumstances have caused their budgets to tighten.

Sparklight recently offered a set of $5,000 grants for the nonprofits to help their efforts in the communities they service. Local organization Opportunties Inc. was awarded one of the grants.

"Before COVID, they (Opportunities Inc.) assisted the special needs children and adults of the Texarkana community," said Tammy Gabel, Sparklight spokesperson. "When the COVID crisis kicked in, they went to providing more of their services via online/distance. Now as they prepare to transition back to more in-person care, they are having to making several adjustments, which has cost them resources. This grant will help them make it through this transition period."

More than 120 organizations submitted proposals for these grants.

"We are happy to give back and support the Texarkana community," Gabel said. "Especially at a time when their resources are stretched, yet at the same time their community needs them more than ever."
