Man drowns in Atlanta canoe accident

ATLANTA, Texas - A man drowned early Friday at Atlanta State Park.

Law enforcement responded about 2 a.m. to a call about an overturned canoe and a possible drowning, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office. Texas game wardens responded, along with sheriff's deputies, and will lead the investigation.

The victim has been identified as Colton Clemenson, 24, said Texas Game Warden Capt. Shawn Hervey.

Clemenson and a woman were in the canoe when it overturned, Hervey said.

Both fell in the water, but the woman was able to make it to shore and called 911, Hervey said.

Atlanta State Park was closed because of the tropical storm warning Thursday, and no one knew the couple were in the water, Hervey said.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the incident, Hervey said. The body has been sent for an autopsy.

Atlanta State Park is located on Lake Wright Patman northwest of Atlanta, Texas.
