State agency: COVID-19 case in Bowie County

BOWIE COUNTY, Texas - The Texas Department of State Health Services says there is a presumptive case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, in Bowie County after all.

After the city of Texarkana and the county announced the case in a news release Monday, the TDSHS press office said it was unaware of any COVID-19 patients in Bowie County. But in a follow-up email, a spokesperson corrected the record.

"Yes, there is a case in a Bowie County resident. It was initially thought that the person was a resident of a neighboring county but we have since confirmed that it is indeed a Bowie County resident. The county will provide additional details about the case," the email states.

No details about the patient, their condition or the circumstances of their infection were released Monday. A city spokesperson cited "complex privacy concerns."
