Judge: Confirmed COVID-19 case in Morris County

DAINGERFIELD, Texas - Morris County has its first confirmed case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, County Judge Doug Reeder announced Sunday.

The Texas Department of State Health Services informed Reeder of the case late Sunday afternoon, he said in a statement.

"The DSHS is talking all necessary actions in response to this matter," Reeder said. "While there is no cause for panic, it does underscore the need to take this medical emergency serious."

Reeder urged people to take the recommended precautions against contracting or spreading the virus, including frequent hand-washing and social distancing.

"The County Judge's office and the Emergency Management Coordinator continue to work diligently to prepare for and respond to this event. We are also working hard to provide everyone with the most accurate and current information available to us," Reeder said.
