TEXARKANA, Texas - Even though COVID-19 forced the Runnin WJ Ranch to be closed for several months, the therapeutic riding ranch managed to reopen earlier this mont, much to the joy of several special needs kids.

Last week 18 Pleasant Grove Elementary pre-kindergarten young ones excitedly scampered off their school bus and hurried to the horses.

"The joy in the hearts of these kids is just amazing," said Tori Hudnall, a PG teacher's aid. "This really has a calming effect on the kids and it gives them confidence and it teaches them how to pay attention and follow directions."

PG PreK teacher Erin Wafford said the school district has been involve with the ranch for about the last 15 years.

Typically, the ranch usually conducts therapeutic riding in conjunction with public school openings in August and September. However, despite the financial struggle and challenges that lay ahead, Runnin WJ Executive Director Sam Clem said the joy that God brings to the children's hearts makes it all worthwhile.

"It is such an honor to see the love on these kids' faces, Clem said.

Anyone seeking to donate to the ranch can call 903-838-3223.
