Arcade application is up for consideration in area town on Tuesday | Atlanta's city manager cites parking concerns, says response has been negative

A special use permit application for a proposed arcade will be the focus of a Planning and Zoning Commission public hearing Tuesday.

Moiz Budhwani has submitted an application for a permit that would allow Arcade Sweepstakes Music Download to be located at 110 W. Hiram St., in Atlanta, according to the public hearing notice.

The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 3315 N. Buckner St.

The planning and zoning commission will weigh the merits of the issue, said Atlanta City Manager David Cockrell. However, the city will be recommending the commission not approve the permit, Cockrell said.

He cited inadequate parking as the reason.

"It looks like there would be 19 stations to play games at. And that location is only designed for a couple of parking spots," Cockrell said.

He described the location as a "very small strip center," that would not be able to handle the amount of parking an arcade would need.

Cockrell said there is a similar arcade on U.S. Highway 59 and the City has questioned the Cass County District Attorney about the legality of it.

Tuesday's meeting has been advertised in the newspaper and letters have been set to businesses within 100 feet of the proposed arcade.

"All of the comments we have received have been negative," he said.

Anyone interested in attending the meeting will be given the opportunity to be heard on the matter.

Calls may be made to 903-796-2192.

Budhwani could not be reached for comment.
