Missing Miller County senior, 77, found safe on beach at Padre Island

TEXARKANA - A missing Miller County man has been found safe in Padre Island, Texas.

A Silver Alert had been issued in late February for 77-year-old Darrell Medford.

Medford had been last seen leaving his home on Old Salem Road about 10 a.m. on a Sunday morning, according to information from the Miller County Sheriff's Office.

He was reportedly driving a red/maroon 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

On Tuesday, Feb.22, Texas game wardens assigned to Willacy County, Texas, responded to reports of an elderly man on the Padre Island National Seashore, according to a news release.

Reports from the caller were that the individual appeared to need medical attention due to signs of dementia.

Game wardens responded by boat and transported him to Port Mansfield where medical personnel were standing by.

Medford's family was notified and officials in Texas learned a Silver Alert had been issued for him in Texarkana.

A Silver Alert is a public notification system that broadcasts information about missing people, especially senior citizens with possible dementia issues.
