Atlanta, Texas, man arrested on child injury charge

DALLAS - A man with ties to Atlanta, Texas, has been arrested on a charge of injury to a child with intent to cause severe bodily injury and serious mental deficiency or impairment, according to law enforcement.

Charles Edwin Brooks Jr., 29, of Atlanta and Dallas, was taken into custody Monday afternoon by Dallas County Sheriff's Office, according to jail records.

The charge is a first-degree felony punishable by a maximum sentence of 99 years or life in prison and/or a maximum fine of $10,000.

He is being held in the Dallas County jail on a $250,000 bail, according to jail records.

Brooks is accused of injuring his toddler stepson.

The child is in the intensive care unit of a Dallas hospital with a severe brain bleed, according to family.
